This September, San Jose will close five miles of streets to cars for its second Viva CalleSJ event of 2019. Viva CalleSJ is an open streets events that allows residents to explore new neighborhoods by walking, biking, and skating. This Fall’s route goes from Backesto Park through Japantown and across the Guadalupe River all the way to the Rose Garden.

Walk San Jose is excited to bring Jane’s Walks back to San Jose for Viva CalleSJ. We will be hosting Jane’s Walks near the Rose Garden and Japantown hubs of the event. Jane’s Walks are free, resident-led walking tours inspired by urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs. The purpose of the walk is to allow us to share stories and experiences within our neighborhoods.

Want to help out? We’re looking for walk leaders in Japantown and the Rose Garden to spearhead a walk! To lead a walk, all you need is to love your neighborhood and be willing to share and connect with neighbors! Leading a walk is a great way to tell the story of your community through art, history, nature, or any other way you can think of. Jane’s Walk leaders will receive a t-shirt or water bottle the day of the event. If you live in Japantown or by the Rose Garden and you’re interested in leading a walk, contact us at janeswalksj@calwalks.org
